Google’s First Android 2.3 Operated Nexus S Smartphone: Available on Best Buy

This Monday Google, Samsung and Best Buy jointly announced that another upcoming handset named Nexus S, Google’s new flagship Android phone and the first device to run Android 2.3, which is codenamed as “Gingerbread” will soon hit the market. The new smart phone is 1-GHz, slab-style one and it looks mostly like Samsung’s trendy Galaxy S line. But it includes several fine and new hardware and software features to provide the users “a ‘pure Google’ experience comprising unlocked and unfiltered access to numerous useful Google mobile services.”

The phone boasts of a very delicate curve to the screen which easily grabs the attention, Samsung says. Its features are quite same to Samsung Galaxy S which includes a Hummingbird processor, 16 GB of storage, 5-megapixel rear-facing and VGA front-facing cameras, HD video playback system and 720-by-480 video recording capabilities. It has got a gyroscope sensor; that’s new. The phone has Wi-Fi 802.11n, and supports Wi-Fi hotspot mode.

In its recent announcement Google also mentions being a “pure Google” phone, the handset doesn’t comprise of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI overlay. It runs on T-Mobile’s 3G network, though not at the maximum HSPA+ speeds of the carrier. The handset also works, unlocked, on AT&T’s 2G EDGE network.
After the launch of Nexus S, perhaps other Android devices will gear up to upgrade Android ecosystem in positive directions. Since Google has already upgraded their Android version through Nexus S, other manufacturers will surely take things more seriously and go for prompt updates; otherwise this can be a potential threat to them to survive in Android market.

“With this device, users will also be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available,” Google’s product page claims.

The nexus S will be available on sale from 16th December onwards. It will be sold at Best Buy stores. Pay around $529 for unlocked version, or $199 to purchase it with a two-year T-Mobile contract. For more updates on this forthcoming Android device, stay in touch with us.
