Huge Iceberg Breaks After New Zealand Earthquake

As fallout of the New Zealand earthquake, a very large block of ice got broken from a glacier within few minutes of the violent earthquake that struck the city of Christchurch yesterday. It was a 30 million tone block of ice and it crashed into the lake soon after the earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hit New Zealand yesterday.

The huge iceberg started ripping off the Tasmian Glacier near the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and it was accompanied by a huge sound. People feel that a bullet is being fired from a big rifle.  The locals said that the earthquake continued for about a minute and the sound of that huge ice block was heard from five kilometers away.

Local people said that the piece of ice was about one kilometer long and it got broken into smaller ice pieces. The smaller pieces were 200 meters in length and were standing about 50 meters above the lake.

The killer New Zealand earthquake measured around 6.3 in magnitude and is expected to kill around 100 people and 250 missing. Many houses got broken and cars and properties got destroyed in the massive earthquake that hit New Zealand yesterday afternoon.
