It hasn’t been too long when Aditya Chopra’s ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ or Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ used to fascinate us with their appealing storyline along with natural youthful vigor. Director Danish Aslam’s may be one of them who cannot think without these highly successful films, especially when it comes to the making of his own debut film ‘Break Ke Baad’. The movie is a romantic coming-of-age film which is served with blend of comedy and drama. After watching the movie anybody can tell that it was very much motivated from DDLJ or DCH which still inspire today’s young generations. It seems he has made a medley mix from these movies combined with a dash of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and some other films by Yash Raj and Dharma.
Though it cannot be said to be inspired from the great films which has been able to show new trends in the movie making, be it a powerful script or with great music composition, but the storyteller should take some further effort to offer something extra in his film so that it can make a long lasting effect upon audience. In short, the movie ‘Break Ke Baad’ totally fails to connect with the audience.
‘Break Ke Baad’ mainly focuses on the space issues that a regular couple mostly complains about. In present day scenario space has almost become like a break-up mantra and ‘Break Ke Baad’ explores this side of the relationships without trying to be a conventional love story. It has shown us the typical Hollywood style metropolitan comedy, approach and sensitivity, but what at the end it is nothing but a poor imitation of typical Bollywood style romantic movie, that could not stand out the crowd.
