Adding woes to worries, thousands of workers have gone on strike in Egypt making the economy further crippled. Their demands include increased pay, benefits among the anti government protests that is already rocking the nation.
This newly started labor movement may give further strength to the mass demonstrations against the ousted President Hosni Mubarak. People of Egypt are of the opinion that the regime of Mubarak is marked with widespread corruption and the country has deepened into acute poverty.
In the newly started labor strike, thousands of workers are participating and they include labor from the port and ship repair companies. Many workers are staging protest in the company grounds in different cities such as Mahalla, Cairo and Port Said. However, the strike has not affected the traffic along the Suez Canal.
The agitators have warned the Vice President Omar Suleiman that if the government does not come into negotiations with them, then a coup may come up and that will lead to further chaos in the country. The protestors feel that they can go for negotiations only after Mubarak steps down. They can go for negotiations for democratic reforms only after the removal of the President from the chair.
