Despite threat and red eyes from the Muslim population, Salman Rushdie is to attend the Jaipur literature festival. The author of The Satanic Verses is scheduled to speak on “Inglish, Amlish, Hinglish: The Chutneyfication of English.”
The Jaipur literature festival is expected to take place from January 20-24th in this pink city of Rajasthan. Interestingly, the book Satanic Verses is banned in India for insulting and provoking the Muslim sentiments. The Muslims all over the world claim that Salman Rushdie has hurt their religious sentiment.
Maulana Abdul Qasim Nomani told the reporters that Indian Government must not allow Rushdie to enter India. He even said that if the government does not cancel the visa of Rushdie, then he will write to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Salman Rushdie has written on his twitter that for his India visit, he does not need a visa. The author has attended many literary forums and events in India in the recent years and there has been no untoward incident. It includes the Commonwealth Writers Prize awards in 2000 and Jaipur literature festival in the year 2007.
