2 states rank far better than any other Chetan Bhagat’s story based movie since it has an adroit concept in the story line. However it was expected more of the film since it had all the cylinders of firing the potential concept but did nothing other than making stereotype jokes and lame romance.
Director Abhishek Verman presented the film which is more of a fun rom com drama. Acting could have been much better and the film too has a slow tempo throughout which at times is monotonic.
The story revolves around a couple, who meet in IIM-A and fall in love eventually. The guy is played by Arjun Kapoor and the girl is played by Bollywood diva Alia Bhatt.
This lovely couples plans to marry but have a mountain to climb before that as they both belong from different cultural backgrounds and the families are reluctant to let the relationship take a permanent dimension. The conflict is basically between North Indian culture and South Indian tradition which practically has very little or nothing in common. The guy hails from Delhi and the girl is from Chennai.
The viewers get a lot of puppy love romantic scenes and certain bold scenes where the free spirited sexually liberated desi youth are showcased well. There are also scenes which keep the eyes glued to the screen when the guy impresses the girl’s parents. It has a dozen music montages which is indeed good but could have been much better.
The film had all the ingredients to fare well as a family thriller with a good message but it appeared to be more of something that was aimed at keeping the target audience appeased. In other words, for a change of taste the movie is very much viewable.
