Almost 8 out of 10 patients hide vital details from their doctors during their treatments. Recently a study about physician and patient communication by an expert has revealed many truths. Along with the truths, there are consequences of hiding facts and cover-ups that patients need to bear with. It is neither a matter of joke nor is it difficult to hide details from your doctor during your treatment. You, as a patient, should not mislead the physician who is there to only help you with your health. It is important to understand that now you might be hiding information but the impact will always be on you and not the physician.
Until you do not talk about all the details doctors will not be able to diagnose the issues accurately. In addition to the diagnosis, treatment and advising the patient is equally significant. Proper treatment can only happen when a patient honestly and openly shares all information. Many studies and researches have shown that a huge proportion, around 80 percent, have hidden relevant details from their doctors. What has to be considered here is why do people do that and what can be done about these issues? These may lead to many life-threatening results.
After the studies, 82 percent of people have opened up to being scared about the fact that they will be judged regarding life choices. Nearly 76 percent of people said that they did not want to be lectured on their behavior and 70 percent of people felt uncomfortable. Many patients have also stated that they did not want to discuss things in detail to take up their physician’s time. If you are a patient and hiding any information the loss is completely yours. Patients have to understand that their physicians need to know every small detail which will make the entire procedure of treatment easier and fruitful.
