The noted social activist Anna Hazare has started his three day hunger strike in Mumbai, demanding a stronger Lokpal Bill than the one being debated in the Indian Lok Sabha. Anna reached Juhu beach around 11 AM and did some meditations in front of the bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
He was then taken to MMRDA grounds in a decorated truck. He is suffering from a viral infection and reached the place along with Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. There was thunderous applause from the crowd and there were slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram.
Though there were only 1000-1200 people at the time Anna reached the grounds, crowds begun to swell in numbers by the evening. With Anna’s call to go to prison, around 68,000 people have already signed and expressed their desire to go to prison. Does the Government have so much of space to accommodate so many people in prison?
In the meantime, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said in the Lok Sabha that the government must send the bill to the standing committee and get it back after 2-3 months. In one word, BJP is not ready to support the Lokpal Bill that the Congress proposes to pass in the Lok Sabha. BJP claimed there is hurry and confusion in the bill.
