After riding on Modi factor and winning many provincial elections, BJP now tightens up its boots to grab Assam as well. The state which is under the Congress rule with Tarun Gogoi being the CM is bound to face a tough challenge from the opposition as BJP places Himanta Biswa Sarma a former aide to the present CM.
Sarma, who was a reliable soldier of the Congress veteran was speculated to be cornered in the Congress home for quite some time. BJP effectively grabbed this opportunity and wasted no time. Sarma is expected to join a BJP rally and get inducted there.
The other side of the speculation of Sarma being cornered may be the sudden upsurge of Gogoi’s son Gaurav entering politics in 2012. In fact, Gaurav is an MP from Assam’s Kaliabor constituency.
Although Congress hold a different stand from this reports and said their differences had nothing to do with the separation of Sarma and the party.
Once it was literally unthinkable for Congress to win seats in Assam without Sarma. It was due to his efforts Congress salvaged a landslide victory by winning 78 seats out of 126 in 2011 assembly polls. Now it’s about BJP how they capitalize on Sarma’s experience and win seats in Assam.
