A large number of people have been hospitalized after they consumed eggs having salmonella contamination. The eggs were distributed by a company named Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa. The eggs were distributed in the states of California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
As a result of this, the company has given a call for total egg recall list and that amount is expected to be between 228 million to 338 million eggs. As far the latest reports, the list of states is expanding and it includes Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
The problem of contaminated eggs was pointed out in the month of May when there was a sudden increase in the rate of Salmonella Enteritidis patients getting admitted. The number of patients started increasing from 50 to 200 per week. It has been reported by New York Times that Wright County Eggs has run their regulators over unsafe and poor working conditions, has violated environment norms, harassed the workers and hiring of illegal immigrants.
As per the press release made by the US Food and Drug administration, the disease can cause serious and many fatal infections to the young children or elderly people and any other human being with weak immune systems.
The symptoms of the disease include fever, diarhoeea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The eggs that are being recalled are packed under the following names – Albertsons, Farm Fresh, James Farms, Glenview, Mountain Dairy, Ralphs, Boomsma, Lund, Kemps and Pacific Coast.
