Work related stress is very common for the corporate and officers globally. In this regard Indian employers are way ahead of their Asia Pacific counterparts in adopting strategies to manage the stress well. Stats say that one in every three employers instituted stress management programs last year and almost the same number is expected to turn up this year too.

Needless to say that work stress is a burning issue invariably and ranks above physical inactivity and obesity. However there is a growing concern among the Indian employers and they are aware of this very fact. So many of them are organizing lifestyle change programs which were not so prevalent earlier on in the Indian work culture.

Anuradha Sriram, the Director of Towers Watson India, is of the view that it is positive sign and it is a big stride forward in eradicating the work culture intoxicated with stress. According to the Indian employers, the top three reasons for stress at office are conflicting job expectations, inadequate staff strength in the organisation and lack of maintenance of balance.

Thus many employers are offering flexible working hours to the workers and it is indeed helping a lot. Besides flexible timings, awareness campaigns, workshops, health and productivity programs are also some ideas that are being employed and are faring well too.

Since the economic scenario is indeed demanding such steps towards a general good will be highly challenging and may face many obstacles. Thus employers need to adopt measures that increase productivity and at the same time caters to the welfare of the staffs.
