Instagram, in its latest update supports full sized landscape and portrait photos and videos, which is definitely a matter of relief for many users. The latest update is available for iOS and android as well. Alongside, the social media site will continue the conventional square photos that will remain default for all photos. If you have recently updated Instagram, you will notice a format button just above the camera roll, using which you can choose between full sized images and the square images.
Since the very first launch of Instagram, the social media platform chose only square photos as a way to keep it distinguished from other photo sharing applications. Again, the square photos also looked good in the smaller phone screens too, but now when most people are using bigger screen sizes the appearance of any particular photo in small screen is not really a problem to ponder upon. Most users would have used other third party apps to get the photo adjusted for Instagram upload. Using third party applications for making a photo ready for Instagram upload is quite annoying for sure.
The recent update has also unified Instagram’s photo and video filters option. Users can apply any filters of their choice, regardless of their photo format.
