Noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was finally released by the Government of India authorities after 28 hours of being detained by India. Pakistani authorities were constantly pressurizing their Indian counterpart to release the singer from protective custody.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was caught in the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi when he was leaving the country with a cash of Rs 60 lakh, or equivalent to US $124,000. Rahat was released but he has to surrender his passport and has been asked to appear before the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) building on February 17th. In such case, the Pakistani singer will not be able to leave the country till the issue gets resolved.
As per the law of the land, any foreign person cannot carry more than $5000 in cash and another $5000 in forms of other instruments. If he does so, he has to inform the custom authorities and Rahat did not oblige to the rules. The Indian authorities are also looking into the source of fund of the singer.
Few months back, an FIR was filed by the authorities against him in the police station in Gurgaon as the singer failed to turn up in spite of taking advance money. Incidentally, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the nephew of the legendary Pakistani singer Nusrat fateh Ali Khan.
