Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, the legendary Indian vocal singer has passed away on Monday morning in a hospital in Pune. The singer was admitted to the Sahyadri Hospital in Pune on 31st December as he reported some age related complications. He was also suffering from general weakness.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was given the Bharat Ratna award in the year 2008 for his immense contribution to Indian classical music. Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has visited the hospital to see the ailing singer. The entire nation, especially the music fraternity is really sad at the demise of this great singer.
Hospital authorities said that the singer was suffering from respiratory and renal complications which are quite common at the old age. Pandit Joshi is survived by three sons and a daughter. The singer was 90 at the time of his death. He was also the recipient of many awards including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shree, etc. He has got millions of fans both in India and abroad.
