David Wilkerson has been killed on Wednesday in a car accident in the eastern Texas. He was founder of the World Challenge Ministries. Senior Pastor Carter Conlon of Times Square Church in New York City announced the death of their founding pastor David Wilkerson.
According to sources, David Wilkerson was killed when the car in which he was traveling had a head-on collision with a tractor. His car was moving along U.S. 175. His wife, named Gwen was also traveling in the car with him and is reported to be in a state of critical condition fighting for life at the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.
In a statement, Senior Pastor Carter Conlon said, “Pastor David Wilkerson’s was a life fully given for the glory of God and souls of men. He was greatly loved and he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with the family and we as a church body are committed to standing with them at this time of sorrow.”
George O. Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, said “The Assemblies of God enjoyed a life-long relationship with David Wilkerson. He was godly, humble and represented everything that is best in a spiritual leader. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayer is extended to his wife, Gwen, and family.”
David Wilkerson was mostly known for his zeal, vigor and passion and these almost became trademarks of his ministry. It was because of Wilkerson that many souls came to realize that Christ is a savior and these souls would not have realized this in their lifetime, had not they met his man.
The Times Square Church was founded by Wilkerson in 1987 and from 1999 onwards, he was traveling to different countries of the globe holding conferences of various Christian ministers. He was 79 years old at the time of his death.
