Pressure for a fresh probe and a thorough investigation grows more with the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was in the last season of the IPL (2013) that there was an infamous match fixing scandal and 3 cricketers were arrested. Beside players, names of some eminent personalities got involved which made all the cricket lovers in the country apprehensive of the tournament. Since then there had been public and media pressure to make a clear investigation in the matter. Recently shocking revelations made by Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh has aggravated the demand for a fresh probe.
RR Patil, Home Minister of Maharashtra ordered for a re-investigation on Tuesday, following Vindu’s revelation that had involved names of some mighty personalities from the field of Indian sports and politics. Patil also suggested that Vindu should be interrogated again and his statements be recorded and taken in to accord.
Sacked former IPL commissioner and the master planner of the format of the tournament, Lalit Modi reacted over the reports, questioning the role of the ICC and its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit and demanding a CBI investigation in no time.
Delhi Police who were in charge of the investigation and has interrogated many in this matter, remarked that a fresh probe can be done if necessary.
