Maria Sharapova will meet Azarenka in the Australian Open final as she defeated Petra Kvitova to avenge her defeat. She entered the Australian Open final for the first time after winning the 2008 title.
As she could not enter the final for the last three consecutive years, Maria Sharapova developed a feeling that her career has come to an end. In the semi-final match, Sharapova broke Kvivota’s serve in the last game and finished 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. The other finalist Azarenka defeated the defending champion Kim Clijsters.
The finalist who wins the Australian Open Final will be eligible to get the number one rank. Sharapova served five double faults in the third set and in total 10 in the match. Azarenka, on the other hand was not playing well and Clijsters was almost taking the play into her control. But finally she came back into the game and finally won to enter the finals. Australians will feel bad about the defeat of Clijsters as she is a very popular figure in Australia and is widely known there as Australian Kim. She got a huge backing from the local crowd as it may be her last Australian Open.
