Many celebrities including actors, musicians and athletes will participate in the Stand Up to Cancer 2010 telethon to create awareness among the people for the disease. The show will be telecast today at 8PM on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, HBO, Showtime, E! simultaneously. It can also be seen online in many web portals.
Celebrity cancer survivors, which include Christina Applegate, Maura Tierney, Elizabeth Edwards, Elthan Zohn of “Survivor” fame, Sofia Vergara and cyclist Lance Armstrong all are going to participate in the Stand Up Cancer 2010 show. Michael Douglas will also make a short appearance as he is battling with throat cancer.
The Stand Up to cancer 2010 event will be host by network news anchors Diane Sawyer (ABC), Brian Williams (NBC) and Katie Couric (CBS). Couric’s husband Jay Monahan died from cancer in 1998 and henceforth, he founded the Stand Up to Cancer team.
It is the second edition of Stand Up to Cancer event and the first one was held in 2008 and it raised a fund of more than $100 million for the research of cancer in 2008. The entire money raised from the Stand Up to Cancer 2010 event will go to American Association of Cancer Research so that the research for the treatment of cancer gets speeds up.
