Want to go up the corporate ladder? Play Golf

An opinion poll conducted among the senior corporate executives revealed that many of them play the game of golf just to do climb up the ladder in corporate life. The proportion is highest in India, where 40% of the executives polled said that they prefer playing the game just to increase their professional social networking.

In other countries, the percentage came out to be 33%. As a result, it has been found that a trend of golf playing is on the rise in nations like China, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The trend is found to be more in the developing countries than in the developed countries. In the developed countries, the percentage is as low as 15%.

The poll was conducted among 12,691 employees of different organizations in 24 countries of the world. All of them have confessed that it has given them an opportunity to grow up the corporate ladder. So, it really sounds strange that the key to 40% executives of going up the corporate ladder is not performance, but playing golf.

Almost 50% of the employees in China and around 46% in India have confessed that the sport can be a great help to someone who seriously wants to move up the corporate ladder. The above percentage is 37 in South Korea and 30 in Saudi Arabia. The figure is midway high in Great Britain, the birthplace of the game golf. Nearly 22% of the employees in UK have confessed that playing the game of golf can really help a lot to advance up the corporate ladder quite faster. The sport has a minimum impact in France, where only small 9% of the employees feel that it can give you a chance to move up the corporate ladder.

The employees are of the opinion that by playing this game, one can get closer to the people at the senior management in various ways and accordingly, start getting promotions. This is really a bad news as far as corporate governance is concerned as it shows that the senior corporate executives are really inaccessible to their juniors. The only place, they can feel can meet the senior people is the golf ground.

But that is not possible for everybody as golf is considered to be a very costly game. So, a normal person getting a normal salary cannot afford to play this costly game.
